Causes of the French Revolution
There were many things that caused the French Revolution. First of all there was unfair taxation. The French were becoming extremely bankrupt. The 1st class and 2nd classes refused to pay taxes, therefore forcing the 3rd class to pay for them all. The 3rd class, the locals, did not put up with this. It was unfair and King Louis XVI didn’t care the least about what they thought. The king just went on living the luxury and he and his wife, Marie Antoinette, bought the finest of things. They didn’t even care that half of their country was living in poverty and things just went downhill from there.
Another cause for the French Revolution was the fact that the French people were starving, which ties to the bankrupt government. The hungrier the people got, the angrier they were. And the angrier the people were, the more violent they got. This lead to the storming of the Bastille which was violent, bloody, and very gruesome. This food shortage was also unfair because the King and Queen were having the most fabulous of meals and didn’t care the least about the people who were supposed to be supporting them. It was a very hard time for the people and was one of the main reasons the French Revolution occurred.
The French Revolution overall was a very significant time period and I am very glad I have gotten to learn about it. The causes defiantly lead to violent situations and a lot of changes were made. I think the social causes were the most effective because King Louis XVI was cruel and practically caused the French Revolution. I look forward to learning more about this topic.
