Major Battles and Conflicts of the French Revolution
There were many major battles that occurred during the French Revolution. One is the Storming of the Bastille. The Bastille was considered a prison and fortress that was located in Paris, France. Even though there were only 7 people being held in the Bastille during the storming, this event was the flashpoint of the French Revolution. The French people were mad that they were not being treated as fairly as they deserved when they made almost all of the population. The Nobility was “living it up” by having parties every night, wearing the most lavish clothes, and eating the fanciest foods. The common people were the ones having to work to earn money and barley ever had enough food to feed their families.
One major conflict that happened was the Tennis Court Oath. The Tennis Court Oath was originally created because people felt as though they were not being treated fairly and they wanted to overthrow King Louis XVI because he was the major part of the reason they were so unhappy, however King Louis found out about this and locked them out of their meeting room. They still wanted to have their meeting so they went to the only place left; a tennis court in Versailles, which is where the name came from. This document mainly stated that the common people were not going to stop until they created a constitution for France.
The Declaration of the Rights of Man was another important conflict that went on during the French Revolution. This document was written by the National Assembly which was formed by representatives from the common people. They felt that they were being neglected and unfairly treated by the upper class people even though they made up almost all of the population of France. The Declaration of the Rights of Man stated that every Frenchman should be treated equally and not by what family or class they were born into. After the document was written they took it to the king and forced him to sign it.
Many of these conflicts and battles were caused by the lower class citizens feeling as though they were being treated unfairly and King Louis XVI wouldn’t do anything about it. These are only a few of the many conflicts and battles that occurred during the French revolution.
